Blog Tour: Will to Live (Rachel Amphlett) #willtolive @RachelAmphlett @emmamitchellfpr

Screen Shot 2017-04-04 at 9.46.34 PM.pngThrilled to one of the stops today on the Will to Live blog tour! Rachel Amphlett’s Scared to Death was the first novel I was ever approached to review when I started blogging, so, needless to say, I was more than thrilled to be welcomed back into the world of Detective Kay Hunter!

This novel could easily be read as a standalone, but I would highly recommend reading the first in the series before diving into Will to Live. Not only is Scared to Death an awesome book, but it really helps to set the stage for the secondary plot and characters in this story.

When a packed commuter train runs over a body on the tracks known to locals as “suicide mile”, Detective Sergeant Kay is called to the scene and soon realizes that these suicides are actually the work of a brutal serial killer. The second novel in the Detective Kay series, Will to Live by Rachel Amphlett, is a heart pounding, on the edge of your seat police procedural thriller.

Amphlett does a brilliant job at sucking her reader immediately into the action; the opening scene in this novel is a real doozy. From the first pages, I was sucked right into the plot.   As the novel progressed, I couldn’t help but be delighted in the characterization that is Kay Hunter. She truly comes into her own in this novel as she becomes a little bit darker and digs deeper into those who have betrayed her.

Similar to the narration of the first novel in the series, Amphlett provides insight from Detective Sergeant Kay Hunter and also from the ruthless mastermind behind the killings.  I loved the narrative style; I am always a fan of alternating perspectives and love when I am privy to the thoughts of any criminal mastermind!

I love how Amphlett creates a perfect balance in the resolution of this novel; she has the uncanny ability to tie up loose ends while making the reader want more.  I will be anxiously awaiting the next novel in this series!

4/5 stars.

Be sure to check out the other stops on the Will to Live blog tour!
