When I decided to take an extended break from blogging, I stopped reviewing anything I read completely.
YIKES!
So, to play some catch up, I decided I will be posting “mini reviews” of all the books I have read in the past couple of months while I ease back into blogging!
So, here we go!
No One Is Coming to Save Us
Author: Stephanie Powell Watts
Genre: Literary Fiction
Thoughts: Marketed as a modern Gatsby, I was PUMPED to read this one for a book club I am a member of. I was left seriously disappointed. The characters felt disjointed, no one was likeable or memorable and I found my mind wandering throughout the entire time I was reading. I think I loved the idea of this story more than the actual execution.
I’d say skip it.
All We Ever Wanted
Author: Emily Giffin
Genre: Fiction/Chick Lit
Thoughts: I am a huge Emily Giffin fan. I find her writing style completely engaging. I started this one one evening before bed and was up half the night reading it. The content of the novel is completely relevant to today and I really was impressed with how Giffin delivered the information. However, I did find the ending to be a little bit abrupt.
I think this one is worth the read.
Me Before You
Author: Jojo Moyes
Genre: Romance
Thoughts: Chelsea and I decided to read this as part of our Read. Watch. Review. feature where we read a novel and then watch the movie adaptation. I had never read this book (and I have never watched the movie) but, unpopular opinion alert, it really filled me with rage. This book made me so ANGRY!! I am still riled up thinking about it.
I will talk more about this one after Chelsea and I watch the movie but…I have a feeling there will be some ranting and raving.
Hope you are keeping well lovely! I’ve certainly missed you 😦 xx

I got Me Before You as a gift but I’ve been avoiding it since last year. I saw a review that said it romanticized suicide and I don’t want to read it anymore. 😦

I would agree with that statement. I was not a fan.

Hi Sam! I see that you and I were in the same boat…I’ve been on a blogging hiatus since early April and today is my first post since then. I also hit a long reading slump and just had no desire to write a review. I missed the community though and so I’m going to ease back in and just kind of wing it with shorter reviews, no blog tours and basically just talking books and trying to have fun. Hope things are going better for you and that you’re finding a good reading/blogging balance. PS…I”m really curious about your rage for Me Before You!!

That is the only reason I decided to come back! I really did miss the community and the platform to talk about books but, man oh man, the expectations I was putting on myself were terrible! I am trying to ease back in but that is easier said than done! I hope you are finding your balance too! I always love your posts!

I’ve only watched the movie for Me Before You but was not impressed! I look forward to reading your thoughts.
