Wishlist Wednesday: January Releases I Am Looking Forward To

2017 has a whole lotta books releasing that I cannot wait for, and, lucky for me, a significant amount of them are releasing in Canada this month!   As Clues and Reviews is still a new blog, I had no idea how many books would be releasing in January!  Needless to say, I am pretty pleased with it!   Some of these titles are books I have been lucky enough to get a copy of and the rest of them I’ll be reading as soon as I can get my hands on a copy!

Check out what titles I am most looking forward to adding to my repertoire this January….

2016 Wrap and My Goals/New Year Challenges for 2017

With 2016 quickly coming to a close, I figured now would be a great time to look at my 2016 and some of the goals/challenges I have set for myself for 2017.

Highlights of 2016

  • I started this blog: I’ve met some amazing people and actually developed a hobby that I love.
  • I read 116 books this year with a total of 38,188 pages.  Not too shabby!
  • I got to interact with some of my favourite authors (and totally fan-girl over them..don’t worry people, I kept my cool….)
  • I hit 1000 followers on Instagram and had my first giveaway (it is running until December 30, so if you haven’t entered, you still have time!  You can find me on Instagram here.)

2017 Goals/Things I Am Looking Forward to in 2017

  • Get on an auto-approve list on Netgalley
  • Participate in more blog tours
  • Team up with more bloggers for guest posts
  • Complete a bookstagram photo challenge
  • participate in a monthly buddy read (more on that to come soon!)

2017 Reading Challenges

I am extremely competitive, and a little bit of an overachiever so I am taking my 2017 challenges very seriously!

I am taking part in the Beat the Backlist Challenge and the Edelweiss/Netgalley Challenge.

Welcome to the fourth annual Netgalley and Edelweiss Reading Challenge!

Emily at Falling for YA created this challenge and passed it onto @ Bookish Things & More.

Have you ever logged on to Edelweiss or Netgalley with the intention of “Just Looking” and then logged off having requested 5 new titles even though your TBR is a mile long? This challenge will (hopefully) give you the incentive to tackle your review books, stumble upon new ones, and get your Netgalley percentage to the desired 80%!

Challenge Guidelines

  • The challenge will run from Jan 1, 2017 – Dec 31, 2017.
  • Anyone is welcome to join. You do not need to be a blogger, just post your reviews and come back every month to link them up.
  • Any genre, release date, request date, length, etc. counts so long as it came from Edelweiss or Netgalley.
  • At the beginning of each month there will be a roundup post for you to add your reviews.
  • If you forget to link up one month it’s not a problem just add your reviews next month.
  • If you would like to move up or down levels that is completely fine and at your discretion.
  • If you have any questions tweet me @BookishThings or e-mail katrina@bookisthingsandmore.com!

Bronze – 10 Books

Silver – 25 Books

Gold – 50 Books

Platinum – 75 Books

Diamond – 100 Books

This is my first year in the blogging world so I figure I will settle into the middle and see how it goes! If I want to change anything, I figure I can move up or down the list later?

This challenege is hosted by  Austine @ novelknight.

The Beat the Backlist Challenge is focused on knocking off titles that have been on your TBR for a while, or even ones that get pushed aside for new releases. Over the years, and especially this one, I’ve noticed that new releases are getting more and more attention while our TBRs continue to grow. And the polls I’ve seen/hosted have shown that readers also really want backlist title reviews (if that’s an added incentive to read more of them).

This challenge will run from January 1st to December 31st, 2017.

That’s right. You have en ENTIRE YEAR to complete your goal.

Books must be released prior to 2017

(this challenge isn’t for new releases)

That’s it!

Set your reading goal

Pick the books you want to read

This is more about you working toward decreasing your TBR stack alongside a bunch of other readers!

Post updates throughout the year with #beatthebacklist

That’s it!  Easy peasy!  I need this one to help me with the poor lost and neglected books on my shelf!  I plan on reading four a month.  I am not 100% sure which ones I want to read yet, but I have plenty to choose from based on my Goodreads shelf!

So there you have it; my challenges and goals for 2017.  What are you thinking of doing?

Reading Bingo 2016

screen-shot-2016-11-25-at-8-06-22-amCleopatra Loves Books did this post and I thought it was so much fun, I challenged myself to try and see if I could fill up my own card for the 2016 year!

Since I just found out about this one recently, I purposely didn’t treat this like a challenge by finding books to fit the squares throughout the year. I just looked to see what I read this year already that just fit!

Let’s see how I did…..

My Top Picks of 2016: Books for Your Christmas List

Book wrap up and yearly book lists are some of my favourite blog posts to read!  I love seeing what other people have read and what books they recommend; almost all my book choices come from recommendations be it from friends, other bloggers, or publishers.  Needless to say, I am always on the hunt for my next, great read!

I have only been blogging since September, so this is my first opportunity to participate in a yearly top picks list!   I am so excited.   In 2016, to date, I have read 102 books!  72 of those are ones that I have finished in the few months I have been blogging; needless to say, I am a busy lady and I have had lots of books to choose from.   I decided to narrow them down by these three rules:

  1. Book Must Be Released or Releasing in 2016 in Canada:   There have been several upcoming books that I have read this year (that I know for sure will make my list for next year), but that isn’t fair to talk about some books that everyone can’t get now!
  2. Book Got a 5 Star Rating from Me on Goodreads
  3. I was CRAZY about this book; I found myself being a creeper and trying to make people read it…sometimes against their own free will #sorrynotsorry

Without further ado, in no particular order, here we go!  Get your wishlists ready!!

#ShelfieSunday: Overhauling My Bookshelves with Colourfully Kayla

My bookshelves are a mess. There. I said it.

I try to figure out how to organize them to be functional and nice to look at but I, instead, find myself stacking my reads randomly.

Exhibit A:  Don’t judge me…

Book Review: Bird Box (Josh Malerman)

Reports on the news speak of people going insane; they are becoming viciously violent, killing themselves and others.   First people assume it’s a hoax, but as they become more frequent and impossible to ignore. Something is out there. Something is making this happen. Five years later, Malorie is alive with two young children. They cannot open their eyes; the children have never seen anything outside of their small, abandoned house.   Malorie needs to travel to safety, it’s their only hope, but to do so, they must travel.

They mustn’t open their eyes.

They must listen carefully.

They don’t know what’s out there…
