Sitting Down With Kaira Rouda: Author of Best Day Ever @KairaRouda @HarlequinBooks

Fall is my absolute favourite time of year; not only do I feel more content surrounded by the bright colours and cooler weather but fall marks the time where the most anticipated releases from my wishlist are published.  Enter Best Day Ever, the newest release by Kaira Rouda (which is out TODAY!) and a book that was topping my TBR pile.

I was lucky enough to be able to chat with the author, Kaira Rouda about Best Day Ever, her thoughts on book reviews and how she spends her time when she isn’t creating her novels.

Keep reading to see what Karia said during our chat!  And, stay tuned for our CJSreviews of Best Day Ever, which we made one of our September picks!

If you could tell your readers three things about Best Day Ever, what would they be?

  1. You probably aren’t going to like Paul, no matter how much he would like you to – but don’t take away a star or more from your review just because he isn’t nice. Please! (Thank you if you do read and write a review! Means a lot!)
  2. The setting for BEST DAY EVER is the U.S. state of Ohio – specifically a suburb in Columbus and a small lakeside community near Cleveland. I didn’t even realize the double meaning of Lake Erie (eerie) until a reader pointed it out!  We raised our four kids in Ohio and spent happy weekends by the lake. It wasn’t creepy at all, either place.
  3.  It’s hard to tell you too much about BEST DAY EVER without giving too much away, so I’ll leave you with a fun spotify playlist Paul created for the romantic drive to the lake with Mia.

If you were to cast Best Day Ever for a movie, which actors/actresses would you cast?

I’m terrible at this question because I’ve found with my previous novels that many readers have their own dream cast in mind as they read a book. If I pick an actor they don’t like, then kapow! So I’ll answer it this way: It would be a dream to have BEST DAY EVER as a movie. For Paul’s character, I’d pick an actor who everyone loves, who hasn’t played a bad guy in awhile, or ever. For Mia, I’d pick someone with quiet power.

Do you read your book reviews? How do you deal with bad or good ones?

Yep. I read them all. It’s hard to learn to not take the bad reviews to heart. They sting each time. The good ones make it all worthwhile!

What does a typical day look like for you?  Do you write everyday?  Take a more sporadic approach?

My days are a bit sporadic at the moment celebrating the launch of Best Day Ever! I’m excited to have a lot of events and bookstore signings coming up. After the launch dies down though, you’ll find me back at work on my next novel. I love writing, it’s the life I dreamed of as a child. I feel so fortunate.

What do you like to do when you aren’t writing?

I’m so happy to live in Southern California where there are so many things to do just outside my door. I love walking on the beach, hiking in the hills behind my house, hanging out with friends and family.

Thank you so much for having me here and supporting BEST DAY EVER! It means so much!
