Welcome to my stop on the blog tour for The Collective by R.S Williams. I am so thrilled to be able to bring you an extract today from the novel.
First, let’s check out a synopsis, shall we?
Matilda Gregson never knew a world outside hers existed, that is until Harvey comes along and shows her something beyond her imagination. All that is on Tilly’s mind is finishing her dissertation, getting her degree, and spending time with her friends before the end of the school year.
But everything changes when she meets Jenny, an agent of a secret society, and nothing prepared either of them for the adventure they are about to endure. Under the pressures of surviving, their friendship grows and they find friends in the most unlikely of places, and betrayal just around the corner.
Will they both be able to stop him before he tears Jenny’s society to the ground?
Anything with a secret society intrigues me right away! Keep reading for an extract from The Collective.
“I’ve already seen the library I’ll be researching in,” Natasha continued, “it’s a public one so Charlotte says I’ll need to be extra careful.” She laughed and Jenny forced a smile at her.
“Nice, I patrol the university library. Hopefully I’ll get promoted soon, I can’t wait to be a Collector Trainee. My mum would’ve wanted this for me,” Jenny looked to the floor at the mention of her mother and Charlotte placed a hand on top of hers.
“She would already be proud of you Jen, just remember that,” her comforting words always made Jenny feel better. “Are you coming to the ceremony tomorrow? It’ll be the last time I get to see you for a while. I’ve got an assignment and I leave after it, so I have to make arrangements for Natasha.”
“Oh, well I wasn’t planning on it but sure, I’ll come to see you off.” Jenny hated ceremony’s. They were for the Recruits who were becoming Collectors, a bit like a graduation ceremony, and watching someone else get her dream was not something Jenny wanted to watch. She hated it when Charlotte went away, she was left alone again.
“Are new recruits allowed in?” asked Natasha.
“No, chipped personnel only,” replied Charlotte taking her hand off Jenny’s. “You’ll make it there one day. It’s a stupid rule but one that’s been around since the beginning of The Collective.” Natasha’s eyes were filled with determination. Jenny hadn’t seen that kind of recruit for a while, the last few had been recruited out of need because they’d seen things they shouldn’t not because they wanted to join, so it was nice to see.
“That’s a shame,” said Natasha. “I’m going to get a coffee; do you want one?”
“No, thank you, I actually need to go before Harvey comes and finds me,” replied Jenny, grabbing hold of her bag as she stood up.
“Still trying to avoid him I see,” laughed Charlotte as Natasha walked off to the counter. Jenny scowled at her. “You know you can’t avoid him forever, he is a Collector and your supervisor, when he’s not on assignment he’s supposed to teach you and prepare you for your own graduation.”
